One Step closer to the cure
Ever since we can remember, Olivia Walters (also referred to as Liv)
has been a very important girl in our lives. Having grown up and shared some of our most favored memories
with her we were shocked to find out she had been diagnosed with Leukemia our
8th grade year. As her friends and family, we knew we wanted to help.
During the summer of 2013 I, Julia Hiatt,
Washington DECA’s Area 9 President and Michaela McCormick, a National DECA competitor, teamed up to create a
fundraiser to give back for everything that was given to Liv. We’ve spent immeasurable hours planning and pooling our resources together to show Cancer patients (like Olivia) that as a community, we care.
OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute is the
organization that is responsible for Leukemia research for OHSU Doernbecher
Children’s Hospital. Because Liv
is a patient at this Hospital, we figured there wasn’t a better place to donate to.
Which brings us back to the 4K for Leukemia
Color Run. We wanted to create a fundraiser that didn’t ask people to just hand
out donations, but let people have fun while doing it. Most importantly, we
wanted to create an even that our friend, Olivia, could have fun and be a part of
too.
So come out, have fun! Run, jog, or walk
and help us get one step closer to the
cure.
